The Woodlands is a carefully considered residential project that embodies Morph Design Studio’s approach to blending traditional character with contemporary architectural design. Acting as residential architects and project managers, we worked closely with the client to retain the charm of the original property while introducing new elements that reflect modern family life. By preserving the existing front façade and adding a new ground and first floor, the home now culminates in a striking, light-filled rear extension that perfectly balances old and new.
A Collaborative Journey with the Client
The project began through close collaboration with the homeowners, whose vision evolved over time. Acting as planning approval architects, we developed the initial concepts just before the Covid pandemic. During the pause that followed, the family reflected on their priorities and lifestyle needs, allowing us to refine and elevate the final design. When work resumed, Morph Design Studio guided the project through detailed technical drawings and building project management, ensuring that the final home captured the essence of their aspirations.
Architecture That Evolves with Time
As experienced residential architects, we understand that successful homes adapt to the families who live in them. The Woodlands embodies this philosophy, with an architecture that is both enduring and flexible. The rear extension, characterised by clean lines and modern materials, contrasts beautifully with the preserved façade. Interior Design and Spatial Flow
Internally, the layout has been completely reimagined. Acting as interior coordinators and technical architects, we created spaces that flow naturally from one to another, combining comfort, light, and practicality. Each room is tailored to reflect the family’s daily life, offering spaces for relaxation, gathering, and work. High-quality finishes and bespoke joinery add texture and warmth, ensuring the interior complements the building’s architectural narrative. The result is a home that feels cohesive, inviting, and deeply personal.
Designing with Context in Mind
Located just a short walk from the River Thames, The Woodlands draws inspiration from its setting, a place where urban convenience meets natural calm. Acting as local architects with a deep understanding of Surrey’s character, we ensured that the design enhances both the home’s surroundings and its connection to the outdoors. The orientation, glazing, and landscaping all work in harmony to capture light and views while maintaining privacy and comfort. This sensitivity to context remains central to our design process across all projects.
