Set in the heart of the Surrey Hills, Stone House is an exceptional five-bedroom detached residence designed and delivered by Morph Design Studio. Acting as residential architects and project managers, we transformed a dilapidated structure into a refined, contemporary home. The design embraces its re-landscaped garden and swimming pool, where full-height glazing and large sliding doors create uninterrupted views and a natural connection to the outdoors. The result is an elegant modern dwelling that responds sensitively to its countryside setting while meeting the demands of contemporary family life.
The entrance makes an immediate impression, featuring a grand double-storey hallway with a statement staircase that curves gracefully towards the first floor. Acting as experienced architects, we planned the internal layout to balance openness with privacy, ensuring each space transitions naturally into the next. The 2.4 metre doors open into the home’s central living zone, which includes a kitchen, breakfast area, and TV space overlooking the garden and pool. As residential architects in the Surrey Hills, we created a home where every view, proportion, and material reinforces a sense of calm and sophistication.
Flexibility was central to the brief. The layout allows areas to be opened or closed depending on the client’s lifestyle. Adjoining rooms include a drawing room, games room, study, cinema, and gym, each designed for comfort and practicality. Acting as extension architects and interior coordinators, we ensured that circulation and sightlines remain consistent across the home. Through careful planning and precise technical drawing, we created fluid spaces that feel unified, adaptable, and perfectly suited to family living.
As architects with a strong understanding of context, we designed Stone House to reflect its surroundings. The re-landscaped garden complements the home’s architectural geometry, providing a soft edge to the built form. Full-height glazing frames panoramic views of the countryside, while the open-plan ground floor connects effortlessly to terraces and outdoor spaces. Our approach to architectural design prioritised balance between interior comfort and the natural environment, reinforcing the home’s seamless indoor and outdoor connection that defines life in the Surrey Hills.
Externally, the design draws inspiration from local materials and textures. The stone cladding echoes the region’s disused quarries, while charred timber cladding at first-floor level provides a subtle contrast to the natural landscape. Inside, bespoke timber joinery and warm finishes mirror the tones of the surrounding woodland. Acting as listed building architects on other heritage projects, our team applied the same sensitivity to detailing here, ensuring craftsmanship, authenticity, and proportion. Every surface, junction, and finish reflects Morph Design Studio's commitment to quality and timeless design.
Stone House, Surrey Hills represents Morph Design Studio's belief that great architecture is defined by its relationship with place. Through thoughtful architectural design and precise building project management, we created a home that is visually striking yet deeply connected to its environment. The use of natural materials, considered proportions, and careful alignment with the landscape creates a sense of permanence and belonging. As residential architects working across Surrey, our goal is to design homes that stand in harmony with their surroundings while elevating the experience of everyday living.
