Enhancing a Contemporary Home in Cobham
Set within the green surroundings of Surrey, Stealth Extension, Cobham is a project that demonstrates how sensitive architectural design can transform an existing property into a refined, modern home. Morph Design Studio was appointed to design and deliver an internal refurbishment and extension that would elevate both the character and performance of the residence. Acting as residential architects and project managers, we focused on achieving cohesion between new and existing spaces through precision, proportion and material continuity.
Refining Layout and Interior Character
The project began with a detailed assessment of the existing kitchen, dining and living areas. As experienced architects, we re-planned the layout to improve flow and usability while introducing a rich palette of finishes. Bespoke joinery, textured surfaces and carefully selected materials create warmth and individuality. Acting as planning approval architects, we ensured the extension met local Cobham regulations while respecting the surrounding context. The interior now balances open living with clearly defined zones, each connected visually and physically to the landscaped garden.
A Light-Filled Modern Extension
At the heart of the design lies the new extension, defined by full-height glazing and sleek sliding doors framed within a striking black aluminium overhang. As extension architects, we designed the structure to bring natural light deep into the interior, enhancing the sense of openness. The glazing connects directly to the outdoor terrace, creating a smooth transition between inside and out. The architectural detailing, combined with subtle framing, allows the extension to feel contemporary yet understated, giving the project its distinctive “stealth” identity within Cobham's residential landscape.
Continuity and Flow Throughout the Home
Beyond the extension itself, the refurbishment encompassed the entire ground floor, including the dining room and formal lounge. New sliding doors mirror those in the addition, unifying the architectural language across the house. Acting as residential architects and interior coordinators, we ensured the transition between original and new spaces felt effortless. Through detailed technical drawings and close building project management, we maintained design consistency in scale, light and material selection, giving the home a cohesive and calm atmosphere.
